£50 million worth of cocaine found on UK beach

Cocaine worth up to £50 million was discovered washed up on a beach in the sleepy town of Hopton-On-Sea, close to Great Yarmouth today. 

Police and Border Force were on hand after a dozen holdalls containing 360kg of the white stuff appeared on the beach. 

The drugs had almost definitely been lost in transit after turning up in the quiet holiday destination, with suggestions that they’d been lost by criminals traveling through the North Sea.

Matthew Rivers, from the National Crime Agency border investigation team, said, “We are now working with Border Force, the Coastguard Agency and Norfolk Police to try and establish how the bags ended up where they did, however it is extremely unlikely that this was their intended destination.
