A sad day for parents and their children alike, Alan Rickman has passed away this afternoon at the age of 69.

Known for his portrayal of Snape in ‘Harry Potter’ and Hans Gruber in ‘Die Hard’, Rickman had been suffering from cancer.

An exceptional actor, Rickman’s career spanned theatre as well as the screen, as he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company after working as a dresser behind the scenes, later on directing his own plays.

He had been with his wife Rima Horton since 1965.

“Actors are agents of change,” he once said. “A film, a piece of theatre, a piece of music, or a book can make a difference. It can change the world.”

Rest in peace Alan.
