The man behind Arsenal’s much-loved mascot, Gunnersauraus, has been axed by the club as part of their cost-cutting process, according to reports.

The Athletic have reported that Jerry Quy – who has dressed up as the green dinosaur since 1993 – has been sacked as Arsenal believe his role is “no longer deemed necessary”.

The redundancy of Quy comes as the club seek to cut costs to deal with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and 2 months after they announced 55 redundancies in August.

While it may be the end of the road for Quy at the club for now, Arsenal reportedly insist Gunnersaurus will return eventually.
