It’s time to say goodbye to a service all 90’s babies will remember and if you can’t, were you really a true 90’s baby?
BBM formerly known as Blackberry Messenger is officially dying at the end of May. Emtek, the company that took BBM over, announced in a blog post that they will be dropping the company and will end the support on the 31st of May.
In recent years, we’ve seen an attempt at revival following BBM’s decline with the introduction of video and audio calls however the world of technology remains fluid and it just never seemed to work in the company’s favour.
Emtek wrote in a blog, “Though we are sad to say goodbye, the time has come to sunset the BBM consumer service, and for us to move on. We hope you will cherish many fond memories of BBM consumer service that helped shape messenger platforms to become what they are today.”
However, it’s not all bad news. Those using the enterprise version of the app titled ‘BBMe’ will still be able to use the service and if you’re desperate to keep the nostalgia of BBM, the enterprise version is still available for new users to purchase.
Let’s take a moment to remember when we’d all use BBM as the go-to messaging service! Gone are the days where statuses would say, “Sleeping, don’t ping” and it is safe to say that BBM will be missed, indeed.
