#BritsSoWhite petition made asking BRITS to publish their diversity figures

Since Stormzy called out The Brits in his One Take Freestyle– stating that the lack of recognition was ’embarrassing’ , the hashtag #BritsSoWhite has been a hot topic of discussion online, from Jasmine Dottiwala to Lily Allen (Although Lily’s post was soon deleted).

We can reel off names of people of colour who were not nominated until our faces turn blue, from Krept and Konan, Lianne La Havas, Stormzy, and Fleur East (who all at some point in the year reached within the top 10).

Anant Naik decided to take things into his own hands and today, created a Change.Org campaign. His request is a simple one-

As a first step I’m calling on the BRITS to publish their voting academy’s diversity figures”

The voting procedure to be nominated for a BRIT is made up of a panel of 100+ music heads. With talk of music-politics and ‘vote blocking’ taking place, it will be interesting to see how the BRITS react to this Change.Org petition…
