As you may or may not be aware, there’s a huge shortage of BAME (Black Asian and Minority Ethnic) talent across the creative industries and whilst opportunities are being put in place to try and balance this out, it’s important we’re all aware of them so we can let others know as well as taking these opportunities ourselves.

Film London have a scheme called London Calling Plus which is dedicated to Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic writers and directors with a proven track record across TV, film or theatre in producing a short film.

They provide up to £15k for each film, but more importantly they deliver a comprehensive programme of training and expert mentoring, helping to nurture and champion London’s most exciting new breakthrough talent.

Basically, you start to plug yourself into the film industry and meet the right people to help you take your talents further.

Shorts produced through last year’s scheme include the BAFTA nominated Three Brothers, actor Riz Ahmed’s Sundance–selected directorial debut Daytimer and LSFF and Aspen Shortsfest winning Two Dosas.

The deadline to apply is 12pm on October 21st so dust off that script you’ve been putting off for years and apply here.

Don’t forget we’re launching ‘Your Cinema’ on 19th October in association with Vue Cinemas and Film Hub London, which will showcase some of the best Black British short films, hosted by Suli Breaks! Click here for tickets and more info.
