Dylann Storm Room, the suspect seen on snapchat just before he opened fire on a bible study group, has been charged with nine counts of murder after being arrested at a traffic stop in North Carolina, four hours away from Charleston. The 21-year old will have a bond hearing today but he is not expected to attend.

South Carolina’s governor, Nikki Haley, told NBC that he should receive capital punishment.

She said: “We will absolutely want him to have the death penalty.”

“This is an absolute hate crime. We’ve been talking with the investigators because we’ve been going through the interviews, they said they looked pure evil in the eye.”

Roof has confessed to killing the nine people in the Bible study group, which took place at the historic Emanuel Africa Methodist Episcopal church in South Carolina. He also said he aimed to cause racial confrontations with his actions.
