Things are set to change at Rockstar Game – the home of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption – as co-founder Dan Houser is set to leave the company.

In a statement by Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive, they confirmed that Dan, who has been on an extended period of leave since Spring last year, will be officially leaving the company on March 11. Sam Houser, his brother, will remain in his role as president.

Over the years, Dan, who has previously acted as writer, voice actor and producer at Rockstar has worked to become one of the biggest developers in the industry. Despite being almost seven years old now, Grand Theft Auto 5 still regularly features in monthly best-selling lists, which is a testament to how popular the much-loved game is.

His departure will leave Rockstar Games in an interesting position during a pivotal moment in gaming. With the release of next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X on the horizon, there’s a lot of anticipation to see what will come from Grand Theft Auto 6. While there will be no immediate effect of Houser’s decision to step down on gamers, his departure will leave big boots to fill.

While fans are hoping for GTA 6 to come sooner rather than later, the actual release is rumoured to be as far away as 2022.
