Sometimes you look at something and certain words just come out naturally. So when I first laid my eyes on BBK’s DJ Maximum’s track listing for his brand new grime compilation entitled ‘Grime Time’ one word automatically came out of my mouth. BLUDCLART!

Yeah, I know… I grew up around sound systems in south London in the early 90’s and this is a word I use a lot when impressed by a heavy tune or an amazing track listing such as this one.

With a mix of new school gems (which can already be considered classics) and old school favourites, this compilation is something of a must have for your parties, get togethers at your nan’s house over a Sunday roast or if you just want a bit of a playlist with attitude.

In collaboration with the legendary Ministry Of Sound (who else) and BBC 1Xtra, DJ Maximum brings in a hefty amount of grime with a whopping 42 tracks, all spread out over 2 CD’s (physical copies still exist in case you didn’t know).

The reason for my excitement when I first laid eyes on this track listing is simply for the fact that the choice makes perfect sense. I know the “purists” may say it’s not “obscure” enough, but they’re not writing this article, I am, and frankly, no one cares about your opinion.

Tracks such as “I Luv U”, “Wot Do U Call It?” and “P’s & Q’s” which remind me of yesteryears (and bunnin’ lemon on the back of the top deck of a 109 bus), combined with the modern day hits such as “Shut Up”, “Shut Down” and “Lock Arrf” to name but a few, make the cut on a sick looking compilation.

I’m not a massive fan of compilations, but seeing the tunes on this and pretty much knowing them off by heart it’s a certy shut down ting! Even more so due to the fact that it’s mixed by none other than DJ Maximum himself, so I already know I’ll be waking up my neighbours religiously every Sunday morning with a generous portion of this.

There are many many more tracks on the compilation, but I wanted you all to discover for yourself and see what kind of reaction you would get, as I did the first time I saw it.

“Grime Time” is out now and you should all grab a copy here… BBK, BBK, none of them flex like BBK!
