Different emojis have different connotations and the sexual associations that come with the aubergine and peach characters have got the two emojis banned from Instagram and Facebook.
Facebook (who also owns Instagram) banned the two emojis – as well as the water drip emoji – after updating its Sexual Solicitation Community Standards.
Speaking on the change to its guidelines, Facebook said: “People use Facebook to discuss and draw attention to sexual violence. We recognise the importance of and want to allow for this discussion.
“We draw the line, however, when content facilitates, encourages or coordinates sexual encounters between adults.
“We also restrict sexually explicit language that may lead to solicitation because some audiences within our global community may be sensitive to this type of content and it may impede the ability for people to connect with their friends and the broader community.”
The aubergine, peach and water drip emojis will still be allowed to use on the platforms but cannot be used in a way which is sexually suggestive or alongside a sexual statement. If the rules aren’t followed by users, their account could be flagged or removed altogether.
