News has emerged today that will leave a bad taste in your mouth, literally.

Studies have found that iced coffee from 3 of the major coffee chains contain bacteria from faeces. Grim.

BBC watchdog tested iced coffee produced in store by Costa, Starbucks and Cafe Nero and found bacteria of varying levels present in samples of the drink in stores belonging to all three of the chains.

Costa came off worst in the survey, with 7 out of 10 samples containing traces of faces. Shit day for them. They have released an official statement on the findings reading, “We were disappointed with the findings, especially as these stores are all rated ‘very good’ with a the top hygiene rating of five.

“Following these results we took immediate action to review our food safety procedures and have updated our ice-handling guidelines and are in the process of introducing new ice equipment storage across our estate.”

Cleanliness of the tables, trays and high chairs were also tested.

Cafe Nero also released a statement claiming:
“A thorough investigation is now under way and the appropriate action will be taken.”

And Starbucks had to say: “We have moved quickly to conduct our own investigation into the claims about the stores”

If that doesn’t put you off your iced latte, not sure what will. The BBC watchdog programme on the findings will air tonight at 8pm.
