Sunday league footballer and local BBC radio presenter Richie Anderson comes out as gay to his fellow Coombs Wood FC team mates in a mini documentary on BBC Sport.
On Monday night’s episode of The One Show, Richie Anderson brung to the forefront the continued problem of homophobia in football in a bid to eradicate the taboo of being gay in male dominated sports.
In the mini documentary Anderson explains how despite feeling comfortable to tell his family and work colleagues about his sexuality, he always felt it to be a taboo within his local football club and had never felt brave enough to tell any of his team mates until now. Anderson sits down with his Coombs Wood FC team mates and opens up about being gay and the reaction is very endearing.
