Fortnite has been labelled as being as “addictive as taking cocaine” in a new lawsuit.

The extremely popular multiplayer video game is facing legal action in the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec as two parents accuse the game of forcing their children into addiction.

The lawsuit argues that the game was created with the intention of being addictive which is inappropriate due to its target audience of children.

Similar thoughts were echoed by Prince Harry earlier this year when the royal called for the came to be banned due to its addictive nature.

Speaking at a YMCA event in West London, Prince Harry said, “That game shouldn’t be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household? It’s created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible. It’s like waiting for the damage to be done and kids turning up on your doorsteps and families being broken down”.

The game was also banned in Iraq earlier this year. In a statement, the Iraqi government said the ban was “due to the negative effects caused by some electronic games on the health, culture, and security of Iraqi society, including societal and moral threats to children and youth”.

If the parents of the children in Quebec win the lawsuit, they are likely to receive millions of pounds in compensation.
