We recently had a sit down with Stefflon Don, who is undoubtedly one of the biggest artists in the scene at the moment. She’s been one of our biggest exports working with the likes of Ne-Yo, French Montana, Jeremih and most recently she featured on the record breaking Scorpion.
Steff has also broke some records of her own, becoming the first UK artist to feature on the iconic XXL Freshman cover. We picked her brains on a range of different topics like her collab with Boohoo, the Scorpion appearance and what she’s got in store for us next, with now being the face of the ‘Do What Moves You Campaign’ with Bacardi, Steff tell us ‘What Moves Her’.
We haven’t heard anything from you in a while, what have you got coming next?
“I’ve got my new mixtape dropping on the 17th of August, listening party the day before”.
Tell us more about that the songs on the mixtape?
“There’s couple people on there, I don’t know if I can name all the names but the producers think it will be a number one so I think I’ll will have my first number one hit guys!! But I can say I’ve got Future, Fekky, DJ Khaled and Ebenezer featuring on there with me”. “I actually returned the favour to Khalid, I’m also gonna be on his album”.
How Did the Scorpion appearance come about?
“You know what Drake just messaged me asking, ‘have you had any funny conversations between you and your girls?’. “So I was like you know what every time we link up, we always have funny conversations, but yeah I sent him one conversation and he was bussing up. He didn’t use the whole convo obviously, but he used the best bits”.
Tell us a bit about the Boohoo collab?
“I thought boohoo would be great to team up with because they’re young, fresh, affordable; and the garms look good”. They also made sure I had input with the designs, which is dope because I wouldn’t want anyone wearing something I wouldn’t wear, so yeah shout out Boohoo.
What have you been doing with Casa Barcadi on the’ Do What Moves Campaign?
The ‘Do What Moves you Campaign’ was about promoting music event’s, where Barcadi held live shows with-well named artists like Giggs, Ms. Banks, and Young Teflon. Which I thought was lit and was fully behind it, As having a history with the brand when it first was Bacardi Breezer I wanted to get involved and promote the UK scene with Barcadi.
As one of the most important female figures in the music industry right now, how do you want people to see you outside of the music itself?
“They can see what whatever they want to see. But it’s important to me for the people to know me, but I can’t be worried about what a million people think of me, because I won’t be me if I keep worrying about what people think of me. Even though nowadays I don’t say what I want to say on social media”.
“But around my people it’s a different story. With my fans, I want them to see the music, I want you lot to see a superstar and I want them to feel inspired, secure, and confident”.
