Facebook yet again seems to be taking pages from Snapchat’s book with their new companion messaging app which will be integrated into Instagram.

The new feature will include a new messaging system called Threads, which is currently being tested by the company’s employees.

Threads is designed to promote constant and automatic sharing between users, which will be determined by their Instagram “close friends” list. This is the element of private messaging which has alluded Facebook in their on going rivalry with Snapchat – which is already outperforming Instagram’s daily engagement among its younger users.

The new Threads system will reportedly present users with the option to provide regular status updates that contain a “real-time view of information about your location, speed and more”, but instead of displaying your actual location, it will show something more general, such as displaying that you are “on the move”.

Threads is being tested internally so is not guaranteed to reach the public, but it is felt that Facebook and Instagram CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes that this new feature is the future of his company.
