A film chronicling the life of renowned East London grime artist Ghetts premieres at Brighton’s The Great Escape Festival on 16th May. Turning the traditional music documentary format on its head, it instead takes an avant-garde approach, looking at the inner creative tensions that Ghetts faces as an artist – represented by three characters, Ghetts, Ghetto and Justin.

Made possible by Jack Daniel’s, the iconic Tennessee whiskey brand, the film ‘War of the Minds’ has been created by the award-winning Sudden Black Productions in collaboration with youth culture media company Disrupt Ltd. Ghetts won the Jack Daniel’s ‘Hardest Working Artist’ category at the AIM (Association of Independent Music) Awards in September last year and went onto play an intimate show at their Jack Rocks The Macbeth venue in December. The film has been created as part of the ongoing Jack Rocks initiative celebrating and supporting the most exciting handcrafted music, cross-genre.

Ghetts was nominated for three MOBO Awards last year and is regarded highly by his industry peers hence the appearance of many of his contemporaries in ‘War of the Minds’ including Kano and Devlin. The film’s premiere will take place at the festival’s Bosco Theatre venue at 1pm on 16th May ahead of Ghetts’ slot supporting Skepta at the 1,700-capacity Brighton Dome that evening.

No word yet on when the general public will get a peep at the film, but we’ll keep you updated as it happens!
