Billionaire rapper Jay-Z is set to add a sports team to his growing empire.
The artist is set to add part owner of an NFL team following reports that the mogul will gain “significant ownership interest (in an NFL team) because he’s a huge fan, already has a sports business and wants to continue to be a change agent for the NFL”.
It has not yet been announced which team Jay will share ownership of.
The news comes after Jay-Z’s recent NFL partnership which will see his brainchild Roc Nation become their live music entertainment strategist. Along with the rest of the Roc Nation team, Jay-Z will have the power to offer his opinion on who should perform at the Super Bowl halftime show and organise artists to perform at other NFL events.
Previous performers at the Super Bowl halftime show include Beyoncé, Madonna, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott.
Roc Nation will also help the football league with their social initiatives following controversy over Colin Kaepernick and his kneeled protest.
In response to the controversy surrounding the deal with NFL, Jay-Z said, “I think we’ve moved past kneeling and I think it’s time to go into actionable items”.
On the new deal, Jay-Z also added, “The NFL has a great platform, and it has to be all-inclusive. They were willing to do some things, to make some changes, that we can do some good. With its global reach, the National Football League has the platform and opportunity to inspire change across the country. Roc Nation has shown that entertainment and enacting change are not mutually exclusive ideas- instead, we unify them. This partnership is an opportunity to strengthen the fabric of communities across America”.
