Days of intense downpours along the Cape Coast have caused widespread flooding in southern Ghana.
At least 10 people have died as a result of the flooding. Much of Accra is currently submerged under water, with continued challenges expected over the coming days. There are also issues to the west of Accra in the Central Region.
The downpour started last Sunday, on June 12th. On that day, the nation’s capital was hit with 185mm of water, more than is normally expected in the whole month of June.
The president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has traveled to many of the areas affected since the flooding began.
The flood comes almost exactly a year after floods in Accra killed over 100 people.
Alarmingly, the news has not been covered by any of the UK’s main news outlets. At the time of writing, Al-Jazeera have been the only significant news site to report on the crisis.

The lack of coverage reflects a much-noted laziness in regard to African issues within Western media.
The rain season is expected by experts to last into July.
