To highlight Anti-Bullying Week in the UK (11th November – 15th November), Mo Gilligan has joined Instagram’s new Banter Or Bullying? campaign.

The new campaign from Instagram comers after a report from Cybersmile revealed 51% of young people think banter is sometimes used as an excuse for bullying.

With banter being a big part of British culture, Mo Gilligan took to IGTV to give his take on the distinguishing factors between bullying and banter. From advice to those with weak banter to trying to get the balance between the two right, the four-minute video sees Mo speak on all things banter and bullying.

Speaking on the campaign, Mo Gilligan said:
“We all love a bit of banter. It’s what we Brits do. But let’s not lose these qualities to bullies and negativity.

“Let’s talk openly if things get tough, put out positivity wherever we can and look out for each other.”

New research also found that 66% of young people have seen one of their friends insulted by banter at least once a month.

The Banter Or Bullying? campaign has been launched alongside Instagram’s new AI-powered Comment Wanring feature, which will notify users when their comment may be considered offensive. The feature will allow individuals to reflect on their comments before posting.
