Ray Blk has finally released her anticipated EP, Havisham, after dropping 2 songs on her Soundcloud which gathered 1000+ listens in a week. This is the first project from the alternative R&B singer whose sound has been compared to the likes of TDE songstress SZA, and the sultry Frank Ocean. Her primary focus on meaningful lyrics, followed by her soulful melodies and what BBC 1Xtra radio host Sian Anderson calls “suave vocals” makes Ray stand out, and an artist to watch in the scene.

A lot of thought and passion has been put into this EP. It takes inspiration from Charles Dickens’ popular novel, Great Expectations and is named after the character Miss Havisham. Miss Havisham was jilted at the altar and after her heartbreak vowed to never fall again and raised her adopted daughter, Estella to do the same and to maltreat men because they are no good. The EP follows this story. A girl, who falls in love, has her heart broken and turns into the cold hearted, wicked Havisham. This story makes the EP one filled with emotion, edge and a mix of sounds from slow neo-soul to grimey up tempo tracks. With tracks produced by the talented SELVSSE, Dream Koala and mixing and engineering from 6ix of 6 Figure Music and Dmajor, the quality is also undeniable.

The success of the two introductory songs on Soundcloud has led to Ray already securing her first live shows. The first on Sunday 8th March at Box Park in Shoreditch, London from 1-4pm held by Acoustic Live, and the next on Thursday 12th March at Proud Camden, London, from 7-10pm held by Stereo Candy with more live shows to  come.
