After 17 years at one of the leading New York Hip Hop radio stations, veteran Dj Cipha Sounds has left Hot 97.

On a recent podcast with his close friend and now former Hot 97 colleague Paul Rosenberg, Cipha vented his frustrations on his position at the station after Nessa Nitty had been brought in to take over Ciph’s slot.

Cipha took over Angie Marintez’s slot when she departed and joined rival station Power 105.1 back in the summer of 2014.

It’s also reported that Power 105 tried to add get Cipha Sounds to there roster at one point but the DJ declined the offer, showing his loyalty to the station.

Well now finally after being misplaced and not knowing where he stands at the station he has worked and produced timeless material for 17 years, Cipha Sounds has decided it’s time to leave Hot 97.

Cipha Sounds put a post up on his Instagram expressing his decision and future plans. Stating this:

“After 17 years, I’m leaving Hot 97. I¹m changing my relationship status from “it¹s complicated” to “single”. It¹s been an amazing ride – from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie¹s seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it’s going to be huge. Follow me at @ciphasounds”

Cipha is one of the only DJs from New York who actually pays a lot of attention to the UK scene. While it’s maybe the end of his Hot 97 career, his departure will undoubtedly lead him on to bigger and better things.
