The speculation is finally over!

The men, considered the best boxers of their generation, will meet in Las Vegas.

It took just 15 minutes before the fight, being held at the MGM Grand, to sell out (the venue has an seating capacity of 16,800 people).

Mayweather’s WBC and WBA welterweight titles and Pacquiao’s WBO title will be up for grabs.

Mayweather, who will be 38 on Tuesday, is unbeaten in 47 professional fights while Pacquiao, 36, has 57 wins and five losses from 64 contests.

The fight is expected to generate as much as £162m ($250m) and if it does it will shatter the previous record of $97m taken when Mayweather defeated Saul Alvarez in 2013.

Mayweather-Pacquiao is also expected to break the record for pay-per-view buys in the United States. The current record of $2.4m was set when Mayweather fought Oscar de la Hoya in 2007.

Mayweather confirmed the fight was official on his website last night, he wrote: “What the world has been waiting for has arrived.

“Mayweather vs Pacquiao on May 2nd, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done and we did.”

He continued: “Giving the fans what they want to see is always my main focus. This will be the biggest event in the history of the sport. Boxing fans and sports fans around the world will witness greatness on May 2nd.

“I am the best ever and this fight will be another opportunity to showcase my skills and do what I do best, which is win. Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won’t be successful. He will be number 48.”

Pacquiao also commented on the fight, he said: “It is an honour to be part of this historic event. I dedicate this fight to all the fans who willed this fight to happen and, as always, to bring glory to the Philippines and my fellow Filipinos around the world.”

As Mayweather is by far the bigger box office draw, he was able to pull rank on several terms of the fight including having the right to announce the bout first.

He also won concessions from the Pacquiao camp on who enters the ring first, what type of gloves are used, and a number of other issues, including a reported 60-40 split of the purse.

Shortly after the fight was confirmed, Pacquaio’s trainer Freddie Roach began the trash talking, stating: “Floyd should enjoy being the A-Side while he can because on May 2nd Manny is going to put him on his backside.”

Promoter Bob Arum claimed the fight would “have the interest in the U.S. of a Super Bowl.” He added: “I think it will set all kinds of pay-per-view records and gate records. It will be the biggest boxing event of all time.”

After all the back and forth, the fight will definitely happen. So who is going to win???
