Tech rivals Sony and Microsoft are joining forces to develop streaming and artificial intelligence technology. According to a press release on Microsoft’s website, the two companies “will partner on new innovations to enhance customer experiences in their direct-to-consumer entertainment platforms and AI solutions”.

Notably, Sony and Microsoft’s collaboration will surround Microsoft’s Azure gaming cloud service; a service Sony does not yet have individually.

The press release says, “by working together, the companies aim to deliver more enhanced entertainment experiences for their worldwide customers. These efforts will also include building better development platforms for the content creator community. Sony has always been a leader in both entertainment and technology, and the collaboration we announced today builds on this history of innovation. Our partnership brings the power of Azure and Azure AI to Sony to deliver new gaming and entertainment experiences for customers”.

This move is an exciting one which is likely to see the two powerhouses of technology and gaming combine and use their synergy to develop new products and experiences for players that will change the gaming world as we know it.

The news comes as rumours swirl the internet about the PlayStation 5 and the new reincarnation of the Xbox console. More is expected to be revealed at the upcoming E3 event in June but insiders are predicting that we may be moving closer to a day where the PlayStation and Xbox fully merge as one console.
