In a move that is likely to generate cheers from the pro-legalisation crew, a Police force has said that they will now no longer be actively chasing people growing cannabis in their own homes, for their own usage.

Durham Police have said that they will now only go after smokers if they are blatant or if there is a complaint against them. Although only currently in Durham, a small representation of the whole of the UK, it can only be seen as a step toward decriminalization.

Police and Crime Commissioner, Ron Hogg, told the Northern Echo, “Cannabis use is still illegal and smoking it is still a crime, but if you are caught, you will get this opportunity to stop reoffending.”

“By and large we are saying it is not the top of our list to go out and try to pick up people smoking joints on street corners but if it’s blatant or we get complaints, officers will act.”

The feds have also reiterated that their focus on large scale farms and suppliers will remain as vigilant as it always has.

What do you think… should weed be made legal?
