Amazon has been speaking about drone delivery for some time after delivering a prime parcel by air in the UK back in 2016. Since then things have developed and having air-based delivery is now closer than we think.

It doesn’t look like your average drone as it holds a large hexagonal design which will allow it to carry out vertical takeoffs and landings, just like a helicopter.

Amazon has embedded lots of different gadgets to the drone in order to make it as safe as possible. This includes sensors and algorithms so it has a multi-view stereo vision to detect static objects and computer vision to help it detect moving objects.

Not only is the drone smart, but it’s also quick too. Amazons first Prime Air parcel arrived at the customer’s home just 13 minutes after ordering online.

Prime Air is to help Amazon achieve ‘Shipment Zero’ – the goal of zero carbon shipment. Despite hoping to launch within the US over the next few months, it is yet to be confirmed whether it will join the UK.
