Amidst the hype and speculation over Kanye West’s new album, the producer-turned-rapper-turned-fashion-icon showcased his new clothing line produced by Adidas in what The Guardian have described as a “ramshackle”, but the rest of the world (mainly) understood to be pure, unadulterated, completely crazy, genius at the Yeezy Season 3 launch in New York’s Madison Square Garden last night.
In case you were under a rock and missed the screening or Twitter last night, we’ve put together 6 of the biggest things that happened at the surreal presentation.
1. Kanye premiered his new album ‘The Life of Pablo’, a blend of Kanye’s traditional sample-driven production and a trappy vibe. The album was played to an excitable Madison Square Garden crowd in New York, with the Kardashians in also attendance. West shared that the album has a star-studded feature list, including: Chance The Rapper, Kelly Price, The Dream, Kirk Franklin, Kid Cudi, Swizz Beats, Rihanna, Young Thug, Post Malone, Ty Dolla $ign, The Weeknd and Frank Ocean.
2. Kanye also showcased his new in-the-works video game titled “Only One: The Game” which is coming soon. The game is set to take players through his late mother’s journey through the gates of heaven. It’s worth mentioning that this game boasts some very questionable cinematic choices in its trailer – I’d advise you find a clip of it because it had the Enfield cinema I watched the presentation in tears.
3. It was revealed that Adidas have agreed to release more of Kanye’s acclaimed Yeezy shoes for a lower price, making them more attainable for the average person.
4. Yeezy Season 3 models were made to follow to pretty crazy rules. You can see the leaked rules below, but some of the more questionable include: “Do Not Act Cool”, “Before the End of the Performance Stand at Attention”
5. Yeezy said he could still have sex with Taylor Swift. On the newly-premiered song “Famous”, Kanye says “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ Why? I made that bitch famous”. I’m sure this bar was well-received by his baby-mama Kim Kardashian and the rest of her family that were in the crowd.
6. Kanye didn’t actually release his album. Despite being the backdrop to his Yeezy Season 3 presentation, I woke up this morning to see that ‘TLOP’ still hasn’t been released on Spotify, Apple Music OR Tidal, the streaming service through which the presentation was made available last night. You can go back and listen to the album played by Kanye at the premiere on his replay stream, but it appears that Kanye isn’t quite done being Kanye, and will hold off on giving “the greatest album of all time” away to the public for a little while longer.
