Tiger Woods has been involved in a few controversial incidents during his career. More notably his admittance to in excess of 120 affairs whilst married to Erin Nordegren, which prompted her to announce her divorce from him in 2010.

There’s more bad press for Tiger today however after he received a DUI in Florida on Monday. Wood’s has released a statement claiming alcohol was not involved in the incident and instead suggested that it was an “unexpected reaction” to medicine that was behind his erratic driving.

He has been recovering from back surgery, his fourth and most recent operation being as recently as April, explaining the use of prescription medicine.

He was taken to jail in Jupiter, Florida and later released “on his own recognisance”, this means he has
promised in writing to co-operate with future legal proceedings.

Tiger’s statement claims,
“I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved.

“What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realise the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.

“I would like to apologise with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too.”

It’s sure to be an embarrassing admittance for Tiger, who will potentially loose some pretty lucrative endorsements from this slip.
Woods’ endorsement earnings fell $22 million from an estimated $92 million in 2009 to $70 million in 2010 after he admitted to his affairs.

There’s also the mug shot image that has been released from his arrest and it shows a pretty dark picture of the golfer compared to the superstar’s once clean-cut former image.

The internet has, of course, gone crazy with the shot and produced some comedy gold. The full incident report from the police is set to be released later today and whatever is released, there’s sure to be some damage control due in the Wood’s household today.
