Fresh off of the back of his barnstorming victory against Tom Schwarz, Tyson Fury aka the ‘Gypsy King’ has come out on top of a recent poll to determine who the best heavyweight boxer in the division is.

BT Sport had asked its YouTube subscribers who they felt was the best out of the four main contenders in the division.

Out of the 168,000 votes, Fury amassed a whopping 74% of the votes, with Deontay Wilder (12%) coming in second, Anthony Joshua (8%) third and the recently crowned WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz Jr (6%) completing the list respectively.

Having only returned in 2018 off the back of a three-year break from the sport after overcoming his well-publicised mental health issues, this is a great turnaround for Tyson Fury who will undoubtedly be competing for the world titles in his upcoming fights.

Still undefeated, many people believe Tyson’s superior boxing skill to his peers in his division is what sets him apart from the rest.

This was echoed by former WBC cruiserweight champion, Tony Bellew who recently said on TalkSport, “you can’t make no mistake here, Tyson Fury is technically the best heavyweight on the planet by a country mile…he’s the best boxer of them all. It’s just certain things that he lacks like pure brute power and force of someone like an Anthony Joshua”.

Fury’s promoter, Bob Arum, believes there is potential for the anticipated rematch with Deontay Wilder to take place towards the end of 2019, but it’s more likely to take place in 2020.

With the heavyweight division simmering for so long, the recent defeat of Anthony Joshua at the hands of Andy Ruiz Jr has shaken things up and increased the chances of the very best in the division fighting each other.

Despite the lack of belts in his hands, Fury, who is the Lineal heavyweight champion, will be looking to cement is position as number one by reclaiming his belts rather than through polls. Exciting times certainly lie ahead.
