“We don’t need labels anymore, we don’t need that kind of marketing dollars anymore, everything is internal home based kinda style now right.”

A$AP Rocky has has a great 2015 with his latest album “At. Long. Last. A$APshooting to #1 in the US. The album, which featured “L$D” and “Everyday” [feat. Rod Stewart and Miguel], was a huge success due in large part to the overall quality of production involved. This week, the A$AP Mob member sat down with DJ Semtex at Maida Vale studios to discuss his year, the state of the industry and why rappers don’t need labels any more. The chenistry between the two allows for laid back conversation where Rocky is able to be honest.

When asked about the “At. Long. Last. A$AP” project: “This album was about perfecting and showcasing my artistry as a true talented individual because people marginalise and they categorise you as just a rapper and at this point rappers are the epitome of entertainers because they treat rappers like the new deadbeat dad, 2 earrings, couple baby mamas, leased car, IRS and the house foreclosing, problems, and jets in the video but yet houses and properties are being seized and this is what people think about us. Alot of people contribute to that stereotype and that cliche and I’m just trying to show them that there’s alot of us that don’t live that way and don’t that mentality”
