In a heavily choreographed, artistic manner, Childish Gambino has exhibited America’s current social state in his new video for “This Is America”.
Painting the picture from the eyes of an African American male, living in an unjust society, Childish Gambino has been known to directly address socio-economic issues throughout his music and in doing so, has also challenged the norms and values that come with it. In his latest “This Is America”, Gambino strips down, literally as he engages in some intense choreographic stages, progressing with his verses as he speaks on a number of issues in America which have been flooding the news such as the issue of police brutality, gun control and modernistic racial discrimination.
Although he paints a picture of all the negative in the nation, the focus of the video seems to be in empowering black males and females nationwide to make the best of their situations, with a prominent message maintaining a hard working ethos and positive attitude.
