Introducing Finalist #4 – Mugun
Hailing from Coventry, Mugun is currently flying the flag for his city. Having only recently burst onto the scene, he has quickly established himself as one of the most talented MCs from the new generation of artists. Bringing a unique flow and style to the table, it’s clear to see that he has a talent for his craft. With all things considered, he more than deserves his spot as one of our finalists.

HOW HAVE YOU FOUND IT ESTABLISHING YOURSELF IN COVENTRY, WHERE THERE ISN’T MUCH OF A SCENE?
It hasn’t been that hard. We’ve been working hard, but we haven’t had much competition, so we’ve been able to make a lot of noise.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE GUILTY PLEASURE?
That’s funny. I’ll admit it – that Willow Smith tune “Female Energy” bangs.
WHO’S YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INFLUENCE?
Erykah Badu definitely.
WHAT WOULD WINNING MEAN TO YOU?
I can’t answer that, because I’m still shocked that people are even listening to my music – it would mean a lot. I’m still having to adapt to people asking me if I’m Mugun, and it’s a lot for me to take in already.
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF LAST YEAR’S RATED AWARDS AND WHAT DID THEY MEAN FOR THE SCENE?
I think they did a lot. Jevon being in last year’s awards was a big step in my eyes. I was fully buzzed when I saw him on there. I was in Jamaica and I was going mad. Big up last year.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE KA FLAVOUR?
Black grape definitely.
