What’s great about the young and developing scene we have in London (and beyond), is the sheer diversity of it. It seems every day a new artist is coming to our attention, sounding new and innovative and original, yet still so distinctly British.

Artists are getting weird and artists are getting experimental, and it’s due time we started highlighting some of these creatives that may otherwise slip under our radar. With that being said, welcome back to Go Left; GRM’s guide to alternative grime, hip-hop and R&B, the best of what you may not have heard yet.

Happy new year and welcome back to the first ever Go Left feature of 2017! We may be in the January blues, but we’re hoping we can help combat the post-holiday gloom with a fire playlist to brighten your day.

We begin with a KwolleM mix named “Different Pattern” a remix of Manga’s single with Jme and Prez T, this time chopped up with another genius soulful sample; he’s really got that Mellow gGrime niche on point. London rapper Sam Wise follows with his charismatic “OI!” featuring Kevin Taylor, where Wise produces an addictive hook over a gloopy Jay Trench produced beat.

Fellow London-based rapper JACKUM insists he won’t conform on the smooth “9252MY”, whilst Frenzy does what “Bloodflow” says on the tin, spitting with exceptional flow in addition to explaining the biological process of how blood flows.

To end the playlist, SLOCAL member ItsNate teams up with the icy Daniel OG for “BEEP BEEP”, who are both ecstatic that their Uber is on time.

We will be uploading more alternative videos onto our YouTube channel. If you fit in with those who don’t fit in, are part of the Go Left gang and have something wavy for us, send an email to [email protected].
