Rumours regarding the upcoming iPhone 12 have been swirling around for a minute but now Apple have officially announced the phone.

The phone was announced during Apple’s special event which was streamed live today (October 13).

Coming in black, white, blue, red and green, the iPhone 12 will feature the same 6.1 inch display size as the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR. The phone also has 5G connectivity, a dual-lens rear camera and flat sides, similarly to the iPhone 4 from the last decade.

“5G will bring a new level of performance for downloads and uploads, higher quality video-streaming, more responsive gaming, real-time interactivity and so much more,” said chief executive Tim Cook.

However, the phone will see Apple switch from an LCD screen to OLED with a peak brightness of 1200 nits.

The iPhone 12 also has a 12 megapixel camera, while the front camera will gain night mode too.

In an attempt to reflect the company’s environmental aims, the box for the iPhone 12 will not contain a charging brick.

During the event, Apple also revealed a smaller phone with a 5.4 inch screen named the iPhone 12 Mini, as well as the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max which will include Pro features such as Dolby Vision HDR and ProRAW for professional videographers.

The ‘main’ iPhone 12 (£799) and the iPhone 12 Pro (£999) will open for pre-order on Friday (16 October), before going on sale on October 23.

The iPhone 12 Mini (£699) and the iPhone 12 Pro Max (£1099) will open for pre-orders on November 6, and then go on sale on November 13.
