It’s with great excitement we can premiere the brand new project from Bonkaz, his latest drop ‘Mixtape Of The Year’. It’s a large statement for the Thornton Heath artist, who spent 2015 blowing up from all angles; from getting signed to DJ Target and Danny Weed’s Sony imprint off the back of a viral release entitled “We Run The Block”, releasing the ‘Forgive Me When I’m Famous’ EP and battling Hitman Holla in his first rap battle.

With his impact on the blogs, the awards and even the world of fashion becoming more and more evident, Bonkaz is ready to break down even more doors this year. ‘Mixtape Of The Year’ is a culmination of all his efforts so far and is certainly set to prove any doubters of his barring ability very wrong.

It comes just days after his “One Take” freestyle, which had him facing up to the tag team giants Big Tobz and Blittz – and according to the fans on our Twitter, taking the victory too. He came out swinging as “ERZ on the end, that Bonkerz”, reminding his day one fans of his early talents.

‘Mixtape Of The Year’ is in the same vein as that track, with the ‘King Of The Flows’ dropping some very serious hood heat. With features coming from Stormzy, Yxng Bane and Blade Brown, Bonkaz teams up with a few frequent collaborators on production; Jay Jay Musika, Nyge and The Writers Block – as well as recruiting New Orleans producer Chase N Chase (who has worked alongside Drake, Hit-Boy and Lil Wayne) on “Paid In Full 2”.

Stream the tape above and check our brief Q&A with him below, for some insight into the making of it.

What made you decide to bring out a mixtape now? Especially so early in 2016?

I wanted to start the year right, with a bang. You can be so free with a mixtape too.

The name “Mixtape of the Year” is quite a statement. Why have you gone with that?

Simply because I believe in the statement, I believed in it before I started recording for the tape. Everyone should feel that way about their own work.

Many people know that you can showcase an array of styles. What style are you adopting for this project? What sort of vibe are you trying to give off?

I’m just giving off my own vibe as always, music is my way of talking. It’s all based on my mood though and my mood right now is GASSED.

There are some big features on the tape. How did they come about and why did you decide on Stormzy, Yxng Bane, Blade Brown?

Yxng Bane is the future, Blade Brown is the best at what he does and Stormzy is the young king. They were all pretty straight forward, just phoned ’em up really.

How does this mixtape set you up for the rest of the year? Where will this direct you?

It’s momentum. Starting the year strongly only leaves you with one option and that’s to go hard! I’d like to thank everyone who listens to me and shows love, this is for them.
