In a massive win for himself and a massive win for grime music, Skepta has unbelievably won the Mercury Prize, for his album Konnichiwa.

He fends off remarkable competition from the likes of David Bowie and Radiohead (and of course Kano) to take home the prestigious music award.

Clearly overcome with emotion and disbelief, Skepta said when accepting the award from Jarvis Cocker, “Thank you to everybody who was there for me when I was going through depressed times. I don’t know man, I’m so thankful … With no record label we just travelled the world.”

Konnichiwa is the first grime album to take home the Mercury Prize since Dizzee Rascal’s seminal debut Boy In Da Corner back in 2003.

Skeppy was quick to big up his contemporary in the competition, adding, “Kano did this for us and the love is there. Kano, love you for life man.”

You can watch the magic moment above now, where a little bit of grime history was undeniably made. Big up everybody involved!
