Back in 2014, rumours began to circulate of The Game and Ed Sheeran collaborating on a track. It’s true that both have expressed a mutual respect for one another and after exchanging numbers on Twitter, the duo decided to jump in the studio and record a whole heap of material. When talking to MTV News in 2014, The Game said:

“Ed came up with the idea to start working on a joint album, and we started doing it, we were just planning to record one song; we ended up doing like seven. It would be two CDs, the way I would do an album, with his help, and the way he would do an album with my features.”

While we all eagerly anticipated what the two would be able to put together, it seemed like the material would stay unreleased as both parties remained silent. Ed Sheeran went on to release ‘X’ in June 2014, spawning hits like “Sing” and “Thinking Out Loud” while The Game dropped the follow up to his 2005 album ‘The Documentary” with “The Documentary 2” and “The Documentary 2.5”. But now it seems like the rumours are indeed true with a leaked track entitled “Freakshow” being released online.

The track, produced by DJ Mustard, sees Ed Sheeran lay down a slow hook while The Game holds a vibe and talks about his relationship with a special woman; “Bad boy in the pussy, I’m a bring Ma$e back”. This seems to hopefully be the first of many new tracks from the mismatched pairing but if “Freakshow” is anything to go by, we are in for a treat. And who wouldn’t want to see Ed Sheeran dropping bars over a classic west coast rap beat?
