The government have always been nosy youts. With the technology we have in place in the 21st century and the ever-changing and updating means we have of communicating with each other, that snooping has got way easier, theoretically at least.

WhatsApp however, have taken a controversial decision, to fully encrypt every message it’s millions of users send each other.

So what exactly does this mean for you? It means that whatever you send is totally secure, with all messages and content now being safely encoded. Sent a dodgy dick pic? You have less chance of it being hacked into now.

What do you have to do to enable encryption? Sweet nothing. Literally all you have to do is update your app to the latest version and voila.

Why are some people upset about the decision? Although it feels like a win for free speech, law enforcement agencies are against the move from WhatsApp, because it means that criminals, terrorists and the like can communicate on the app without risk of being caught. “It has public safety costs,” FBI attorney James Baker said at a recent press conference. “Folks have to understand that, and figure out how they are going to deal with that.”

Can you deal with that? We think so…
