Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe, is allegedly being held under house arrest after troops invaded his home.

Military Officials have ruled that both Mugabe and wife are “safe and sound”, however firing shots were heard in the northern suburbs where Mugabe; his family and government officials live earlier this morning.

After seizing state TV, troops have declared that their mission is to target “criminals around Mugabe who are committing crimes which are causing social and economic suffering in the country.”

With a lot of people questioning why now, army chief General Constantino Chiwenga, has warned the security services to co-operate so that they can “pacify a degenerating political, social and economic situation in our country.”

Although the Zimbabwean military is ruling out the possibility of this being a military take-over, armed vehicles are currently patrolling in Harare; alongside both UK Foreign Office and US Embassy urging its citizens to remain “safely at home.”

Is this the end of Mugabe’s 37-year reign over Zimbabwe? Will there be a military coup on the rise, which may result in a war? What does the future hold for Zimbabwe?
