Yesterday (June 23), the BET Awards returned to the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles and a whole heap of artists scooped up awards for their efforts over the past year.
South London’s very own Ella Mai – who was also nominated in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Album of the Year categories – received the Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award for her massive R&B single, “Trip”.
The competition for Best International Act was tight this year as UK acts Dave and Giggs were both in the running but the award was won by Nigeria’s very talented Burna Boy.
The night was also moving as BET paid tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle by honouring the artist with the Humanitarian Award for his contribution to his community in Compton. In addition to being honoured, Nipsey also won the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist award.
Cardi B has had a big year in the hip-hop world so it’s only right she won the award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist.
Drake, Beyoncé, Migos and many more were awarded throughout the night and you can see everything that went down when the ceremony airs on TV in the UK at 9pm tonight (June 24).
