Power stars 50 Cent and La La Anthony will produce a new series for Starz about Cyntoia Brown-Long.
The series will be based on Cyntoia Brown-Long’s book Free Cyntoia: My Search for Redemption in the American Prison System which talks about her time in prison as a teenager for killing a man whilst she was a victim of child sex trafficking.
The limited series is set to be written by Power’s Santa Sierra with Cyntoia and her husband both consulting on the project.
The series will feature a dramatized version of Cyntoia’s story. The author and speaker was forced into sex trafficking by a boyfriend and later sentenced to life in prison for aggravated robbery and first degree murder despite being a minor at the time.
Several celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Rihanna campaigned for her release.
Cyntoia was released from prison in 2019.
Christina Davis, President of Original Programming for Starz said, “We’re honoured to be entrusted with Cyntoia’s story, which shines a light on the injustice of a system that tried and sentenced an at-risk minor as an adult when she was a victim herself of sex trafficking.
“This limited series from Curtis, La La and Santa chronicles Cyntoia’s long journey to freedom and furthers our #TakeTheLead programming mandate centred on narratives by, about and for women and underrepresented audiences.”
