Hot off the back of his latest release ‘Coloring Book’ (if you have not checked that, what are you actually saying??), Chi-town’s very own Chance the Rapper sat down with Zane Lowe to discuss the project and the latest in his career.
If you haven’t noticed, Chance does his rap thing very, very differently. Steering clear of labels, doing free releases, his family-man demeanour, the fact you could play his music in the car with a 6 year old and it would actually be fine. Chance has got a lot to say, and you should take note because he is shifting stuff in the rap game.
Here’s the 9 maddest things we found out from his interview.
-
Kanye doesn’t just do his lectures on the Ellen Show
As well as revealing that 2 months ago Kanye told him that he wanted to help him in any way he could, Chance also shared that Yeezy gave the type of lecture that only Yeezy can in the studio in LA. Oh, and Ye programmes live drums when he produces in one take, which is mad.
-
Chance is real polite when he answers Facetime (9:15)
-
Chance has got some CRAZY unreleased Kanye collabos on his iPhone.
Top of the list is the Chance-gospel-madness version of “Waves” (I’m saying slyly better), which Kanye chose to not run with on ‘The Life of Pablo’. Then there’s a Chanceified version of “Famous” (23:42), with a catchy-as-hell singing and rapping verse. Finally, there’s Kanye freestyle-singing over the ‘Coloring Book’ intro “All We Got”. All three snippets sound so good that fans will be happy to hear they have spoken about a project, set to be called ‘Good Ass Job’.
-
Chance does not think anyone should sign away their publishing to record labels
Oh, and the labels try to merk you.
-
Non-spoiler alert: Everyone has tried to sign Chance, including ‘Ye
-
Chance calls himself Jay Electronica’s ‘biggest fan’
And would love to do more work with the mysterious rapper, who he says is working on a project.
-
Justin Bieber is Chance’s ‘f*****g boy’
And Chance lost to him at a dance-off at Coachella, but only because he was ‘so tired’. Bad loser.
-
Chance has written two screenplays, one that is about a stupid Halloween party.
More of that on the way?
-
Chance has three unreleased songs with J Cole, Jeremih and Big Sean…
….but they’ve been ‘stopped’ (blame them labels).
