After what seems like an eternity going through contract discussions with Raheem Sterling and his agent Aidy Ward, we aren’t any closer to a certain resolution. However, Ward has revealed that “He is definitely not signing. He’s not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing.”
Liverpool fans – like me – are no doubt frustrated to hear such words come from his agent. A player that has proved so important to the Liverpool squad could soon be leaving Anfield for good as his contract is due to expire in June of 2017.
In January of 2015, Brendan Rogers revealed that he “would think that [the contract talks] would be concluded very imminently” and that Sterling is “very happy”, so it comes now as quite a surprise to learn that Sterling has feelings of such discontent with the management at Liverpool FC.
Even with Rodgers revealing in March that Sterling and Ward had requested a halt on negotiation talks until the end of the season, many were still confident that Sterling would sign a new contract. Although it did come as a massive shock that Sterling wasn’t offered a contract extension off of the back of being such a vital player throughout Liverpool FC’s challenge for the title during the 2013/14 season.

An extension on his current contract would have seen Sterling’s earnings increase vastly – with him currently earning £35,000 per week – and tied him down at Liverpool FC beyond the 2016/17 season.
