An IT teacher has been banned from the profession for three years after taking pupils to strip club whilst drunk.
Richard Glenn, a teacher at Northumberland private school which costs £4,850 per term, was handed the ban at a misconduct panel.
The 55 year old teacher and former head of sixth form took a group of 16 to 18 year olds to Costa Rica in 2019 along with a group of other adults.
The teacher was eventually sent home over two weeks early due to inappropriate behaviour.
The behaviour included drinking alcohol with pupils including allowing underage pupils to drink, threatening to “kick the head in” of a pupil, threatening to “kill” a pupil, kissing the forehead of a pupil, taking pupils to the strip club, exposing himself to a woman and acting aggressively towards another trip leader.
The report claims that the teacher is unable to recall said events “due to his state of intoxication” during the trip and added that he “did not dispute the recollection of those present.”
The report said, “Mr Glenn was, at various times during the school trip, under the influence of alcohol, and therefore not in a position to adequately take decisions or act in loco parentis should the need arise.
“This was in circumstances where pupils under his care were in an unfamiliar country, far from home, and relying on him for guidance and protection.
“Mr Glenn was an experienced teacher and pastoral leader who would have been expected to lead an overseas trip safely, and would have been well aware of the conduct expected of him.”
Mr Glenn will need to apply for the ban to be lifted after three years has passed.
