A man has been jailed after raiding a McDonald’s with a fake gun and demanding chicken nuggets.

Rudi Batten, 22, arrived at the restaurant in Yate back in February and threatened staff, asking for cash and chicken nuggets.

Staff were unable to provide Batten with nuggets as McDonald’s was serving their breakfast menu so the robber took a double sausage McMuffin instead along with £50 in notes from a till.

The man also held the fake fun to the manager’s head and led him to the onsite safe.

Judge William Hart said at Bristol Crown Court that staff were “clearly terrified”.

He added, “A chilling aspect of that robbery is the way the gun was held. It’s the last thing people would expect in a quiet takeaway in that part of the country.”

Rudi Batten pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, two counts of having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and one count of possessing a knife or blade in a public place.

He has been sentenced to six years in prison.

On the night before, Rudi Batten also took £200 and fried chicken from a nearby restaurant.

Batten’s defence said he was “utterly ashamed and embarrassed” by his behaviour.

“The lack of sophistication, the lack of any disguise are indicative of the desperation with which these offences were committed.”

“He had got himself involved in drink and drugs and with that comes the problem of paying for it.”

In other news, a drug dealer who impersonated MMA fighter Conor McGregor has been sentenced and sent to prison.

The 34-year-old man reportedly gave his name as Conor and provided other false details when stopped by police officers.

The man was also found to have distributed business cards with McGregor’s name written on the back.
