I wouldn’t try to take your girl there for a weekend away though… A man who spent a night in a custody cell in Birmingham after being arrested on suspicion of criminal damage has written a Trip Advisor-style a review of his stay.

It seems like sharing the prison experience is becoming a trend, as the review comes after a dealer live streamed his day from prison earlier this year.

In the report about his 16-hour stay in the Perry Barr cells of Erdington, the 24-year old noticed “how modern and clean the building looks”, and added that he was “dealt with promptly by a custody officer and shown to a cell.”

The review reads: “Once in my cell I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and décor…neutrally decorated to please all parties but done to a high standard.”

Although the review was mostly positive, the author was slightly concerned about a hair found near the en-suite toilet before he admitted it could have been his own. He also had pretty high expectations of the stay, complaining that the cups of tea could have been provided faster.

He finishes the review by courteously thanking the custody staff for donating him a pen and paper, allowing him to put his thoughts into writing.

Chief Inspector Paul Minor, West Midlands Police Criminal Justice Manager shared his own thoughts on the suite.

“We feel it’s a five-star facility: it’s designed to be safer for staff and guests and the more efficient check-in process means we can get arresting officers back out on the streets more quickly.

“The cells have cameras, anti-graffiti surfaces, and reflective ceiling domes so occupants can be seen at all times…it means officers aren’t tied up on cell-door watch so can be out on patrols protecting the public.

“The reviewer has been very complimentary about the facility and staff…but I think he’s been a little harsh by awarding it just a three-star rating!”
