After the frankly dire sales performance of the Wii U (a mere 10 million currently sold), it comes as no surprise that Nintendo have another console on the way.

Unfortunately it is not the elusive and mysterious NX we had all been hoping for, but do not despair. Nintendo, being the innovators that they are, have instead announced the re-release of the console that first put them on the map, the NES.

The new NES (this incarnation being called the Nintendo Classic Mini NES) is now much smaller than the behemoth that it once was and comes pre-loaded with 30 classic NES titles. Ranging from Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong, to Metroid and the rock hard Ghosts N Goblins.

The reincarnated miniature NES of course also comes with the necessary mod cons to suit the modern gamer, the obligatory HDMI cable so there’s no need to trawl through the depths of eBay for old relics like scart leads/adapters.

Old school players can breathe a sigh of relief, as each game has built in check points so you can easily start where you left off. Gone are the days of leaving the damn thing on.

The console is expected to retail at a modest £49 and a second controller can be picked up for just £7.99. It’s gonna be hitting stores on the 11th of November, making for the perfect stocking filler for all the die hard gamers amongst us.
