A number of people are on trial for the alleged murder of two men in a car crash in Leicestershire, including TikTok influencer Mahek Bukhari, 23 and her mother, Ansreen Bukhari, 46.

The trial is taking place at Leicester Crown Court, where the prosecution is alleging the deaths of Saqib Hussain, 21 and Mohammed Hashim Ijazuddin, also 21, were the result of a “story of love, obsession, extortion and ultimately… cold-blooded murder”.

The court heard that Mr Hussain made a 999 call moments before he died, stating that they were being rammed off the road by attackers in two cars.

The crash left Mr Ijazuddin’s car split in two and the pair were found dead at the scene. Prosecutors claim that the incident was “no ordinary traffic accident”.

The prosecution alleges that Mr Hussain had been having a three-year affair with Bukhari and he had sexually explicit videos and pictures of the two in his possession.

When she tried to end their relationship, Mr Hussain allegedly threatened to send the material to her husband and wanted compensation for dates he’d taken her on.

This led to a plan to lure Mr Hussain into a meeting, promising him his money, then ambushing him and silencing him.

Collingwood Thompson KC, prosecuting, said, “That there was a sexual relationship is also clear. A number of sexually-explicit videos and pictures were found, involving both Saqib Hussain and Ansreen Bukhari.

“The existence of that material is at the very centre of this case because it was what that material could do that the Crown say led to… the murder of these two young men.”

Rekan Karwan, 29, of Leicester, was allegedly brought in to help negotiate with Mr Hussain and Raees Jamal, 22, of Loughborough, was said to have recruited others, including Natasha Akhtar, 23, of Birmingham.

Sanaf Gulammustafa, 23, Ameer Jamal, 28, and Mohammed Patel, 21, all from Leicester, are also on trial.

The prosecution claims that Mahek Bukhari sent a message to her mother saying, “I’ll get him jumped by guys and he won’t know what day it is.” She also allegedly told Mr Hussain, “I am sorry that this year you’ll be gone, Saqib.” She has 120,000 followers on TikTok.

All the accused have denied any wrongdoing. The trial continues.
