Rapper Abra Cadabra is set to make his acting debut in the upcoming film Trapping, directed by Penny Woolcock, known for her work on Ackley Bridge.
The highly anticipated movie will premiere exclusively on the new pay-per-view streaming platform, The Drop, which is also set to launch on the same day on September 15.
The film follows the story of Daz (played by Louis Ede), a likeable teenager from London who sees drug dealing as a means to provide for his struggling family. As he becomes entangled in a county lines gang, Daz falls under the influence of the lead member, Magic, portrayed by Abra Cadabra. Coerced into moving to Margate in Kent, Daz finds himself in unimaginable circumstances, compelling him to take extreme measures just to survive.
The movie boasts an impressive cast, including Aaliyah Gohir, C-Biz, Femi Oyeniran, Nicky Walker and members of OFB.
Directed and written by BAFTA and Grammy nominated Penny Woolcock, the film was shot in economically deprived areas of London and Kent.
Abra Cadabra emphasises the film’s message, stating, “The movie speaks for itself, it’s got a message behind it, it’s an insight into what you could be getting yourself into trying to go down that road. If it’s not your portion, don’t go for it. It shouldn’t be for anyone.”
“The Drop” is the brainchild of Fan Studios founders, Femi Oyeniran and Nicky “Slimting” Walker and supported by the British Film Institute, the platform aims to serve minority and underrepresented audiences globally while promoting independent and emerging talent within the British TV and film industries.
