Birmingham has often been chastised for being completely uncompetitive to London in terms of the overall offering of a large British city. Over the years, London has often been referred to in mainstream media as the only true hub of overall cultural influence and talent in the UK – and if it was anywhere else, it was more likely that Manchester or Liverpool would receive a shoutout, despite being much smaller than Birmingham.

However, any true music fan knows that is a gross simplification and one which is lazy at best and purely ignorant at worst; Birmingham’s cultural roots and corresponding music scene has only continued to expand its status as an enclave of true talent, and that’s exactly what the book and documentary “Legacy” aims to showcase.

Featuring excerpts from the likes of Mist, Jaykae, Stardom, Remtrex, and much more, this latest venture from PUNCH records is a true love letter to the Birmingham rap scene. The overall message is one of hope and progress; thankfully Birmingham artists don’t encounter the blocks to the national reception they used to, largely to the advent of the internet and UK Rap scene infrastructure.

Whether you are a lifelong fan of Birmingham rap music or just starting to realise what your bias to London has had you missing out on, be sure to check out the 5 part mini documentary series and corresponding book, both releasing on November 15th.
