A new app has been developed that pays members of the public £10 to take pictures of drivers who have parked illegally.
“Snitch” is run by UK Car Park Management (CPM), the company which hires traffic wardens to patrol car parks for companies such as McDonalds and Halfords, and claims the app will “empower” people who own-off road parking.
The process has been described as “quick and discrete” as users of the app simply have to send a picture of an illegally parked car to the company and their identity remains anonymous. Once the fine is paid, the user – or “snitch” – is paid a sum of £10 for their work.
The app has already been criticised by many, and a spokesman for the RAC stated that giving such powers to the public is a “recipe for disaster”.
If the app does manage to attract a large number of subscribers, fines will be dished out left, right and centre – and tenners too.
